Each type of mold has its own processing range. When different types of molds are used to process the same wire, the degree of wear and use time of the mold will have different effects. In view of this, in order to reduce wear and save material costs on the premise of ensuring work efficiency, operators must select the appropriate drawing die according to the job requirements and the effect to be achieved. In the production process, cemented carbide molds, natural diamond molds, and polycrystalline diamond molds are all commonly used molds.
2.1 Cemented carbide. Tungsten carbide die is a kind of tungsten-cobalt alloy made of cemented carbide. Tungsten carbide and cobalt are its main components. Tungsten carbide is the "skeleton" of the alloy, which mainly plays a hard and wear-resistant role; cobalt is the bonding metal and the source of the toughness of the alloy. Therefore, compared with alloy steel molds, cemented carbide molds have the following characteristics: high wear resistance, good polishing, low adhesion, low friction coefficient, low energy consumption, and high corrosion resistance. These characteristics make cemented carbide wire drawing The mold has a wide range of processing adaptability and has become the most widely used drawing die mold today.
2.2 Natural diamond. Natural diamond is an allotrope of carbon. The mold made of natural diamond has high hardness and good wear resistance. Natural diamond has a certain degree of brittleness and is not easy to process and shape, so it is mostly used to process molds with a diameter less than 1.2mm. In addition, the output of natural diamond is low and the cost is high. Therefore, considering the production cost and technical difficulty, it is not recommended to use this material of wire drawing dies for production activities on a large scale.
2.3 Polycrystalline diamond. Use high-quality synthetic diamond single crystals and bonding agents such as silicon and titanium to press polycrystalline diamond under high temperature and high pressure conditions, and then use it to make wire drawing dies. The mold made of polycrystalline diamond has low cost, uniform inner hole wear, wear resistance, impact resistance, good work efficiency, and wide application.
